Stuart went to law school at William & Mary, graduating in 1979, and got his B.A. from Alma College in Michigan in 1976.    

He began his legal search career in 1988 after working as a Professional Staff Member on the U.S. Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee, an associate at Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson & Hand (now DLA Piper) in Washington, D.C. and as an Assistant City Attorney in Alexandria, Virginia. 

Stuart has been a member of the Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI) since 2010 and was a member of both its 2024 and 2025 annual conference planning committees.    STLS was a legacy sponsor of FDLI’s 75th Anniversary year-long celebration (2024).   He has been on numerous FDLI committees Stuart has been published often on issues of placement, job finding and career issues the past 35 years.

He has been published, quoted, and appeared in the National Law Journal, The Virginia Bar Journal, Update magazine (an FDLI publication), The Washington Legal Times (now the National Law Journal), The Federal Bar Association, The Nurse Attorney Association of Washington, DC, The Women's Bar Association of Washington DC. On a personal note, Stuart played collegiate basketball while at Alma, winning all league honors his junior and senior year.    He won an NCAA post graduate scholarship which he used to attend William and Mary law school.  He has two grown children and is passionate about mental health (he was a Board Member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (Maryland Chapter) from 2018 to 2024.
