About Stuart:

Stuart went to law school at William & Mary, graduating in 1979, and got his B.A. from Alma College in Michigan www.linkedin.com/in/tenhoor in 1976.    

He began his legal search career in 1988 after working as a Professional Staff Member on the U.S. Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee, an associate at Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson & Hand (now DLA Piper) in Washington, D.C. and as an Assistant City Attorney in Alexandria, Virginia. 

Stuart has been a member of the Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI) since 2010 and is a currently a member of its 2024 Annual Conference Planning Committee and a legacy sponsor of FDLI’s 75 th Anniversary year-long celebration (2024).

He has also been a moderator of and speaker at multiple FDLI conferences and programs. Further, Stuart has been a member of the National Association of Legal Search Consultants (NALSC) for several years and is a member of the Events PrepCommittee. He is leading a round-table discussion of how to conduct a retained search for specific attorneys at the 2024 NALSC Annual Conference in San Diego.

Stuart has written about and spoken on placement, job finding and career issues over his 30+ years as a legal search consultant. He has been published, quoted, and appeared in the National Law Journal, The Virginia Bar Journal, Update magazine (an FDLI publication), The Washington Legal Times (now the National Law Journal), The Federal Bar Association, The Nurse Attorney Association of Washington, DC, The Women's Bar Association of Washington DC. He was interviewed on “Hiring Trends in the Life Sciences” on the “Darshan talks” podcast in 2021 and was profiled at:

On a personal note, Stuart played collegiate basketball while at Alma, winning all league honors his junior and senior year.    He won an NCAA post graduate scholarship which he used to attend William and Mary law.  He has two grown children and is an active Board Member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (Maryland Chapter).

We are well positioned to find the candidates best-suited to your needs.    STLS pulls together a search team for every search we conduct.   We help law firms, corporations, trade associations and the federal government find the right candidates for their positions with a focus on the Greater Washington, DC lawyer job market.  In certain instances, we work on a retained basis which positions us to reach out to the best candidates exclusively for our legal employer clients.

Lawyer career coaching

For our individual attorney clients, we help you realistically evaluate your career goals and how best to achieve them.   We often help you in getting a raise or the best offers-compensation and status-when you contemplate switching positions.    For our services, we cap our fees at $1,000 at a rate of $400 per hour.   You only are charged for the time you use.   We offer you a tax deductible payment option with our favorite non-profit—NAMI Maryland.
